Welcome to the latest edition of our Discrimination Law Review.

Last Summer the Government made the most significant change to the employment tribunal system since it was established nearly 50 years ago, by introducing fees for claimants wishing to bring a claim. In this issue we look at the dramatic effect that this has had on the number of claims being brought. We also focus on compulsory retirement with two articles looking at the issue from different perspectives: the first article compares the law in different jurisdictions and the second considers how UK law was applied in a recent post-default retirement age case affecting police authorities around the country. Also featured are articles on surrogacy, post-natal depression, religious discrimination and victimisation and our usual legislation and case-trackers to help you keep an eye on recent, and imminent, changes in the law and important pending cases.

Finally, you may be interested to know that the Government is about to issue a Code of Practice on avoiding discrimination while preventing illegal working. A draft of the Code was published in April and can be found here.
