The development of Open Solar Contracts: a sigificant milestone in the standardisation of contracts for international solar

Weare delighted to have partnered with the International Renewable Energy Agency and the Terrawatt Initiative in the development of the Open Solar Contracts which were launched recently at the World Future Energy Summit in Abu Dhabi.

The publication of these contracts is the culmination of a number of years of work to produce template legal agreements for the solar industry including a power purchase agreement, construction and operation & maintenance agreements.

Ina market where power prices continue to fall it is important that the industry takes as much cost as it can out of the development of projects. The adoption of standard form documentation offers the opportunity to do this by improving the speed and efficiency of solar transactions globally. As a firm, we have advised on over 8 GW of solar projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the US, Latin America and Asia and the value in terms of both time and cost that can be created by reducing the time spent on core legal documents is plain to see.

The Open Solar contracts are intended to be suitable based documents for use in all legal jurisdictions with minimal adaptations for local law issues. A link to the template contracts can be found here.
