Corona Aid for Companies

On February 10, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy opened the application process for the so-called Bridge Aid III.

1. Who can apply for Bridge Aid III?

Companies with less than 750 million euros in annual sales that are affected by closures due to the COVID pandemic and/or face sharp declines in sales in 2020/2021 can apply for Bridge Aid III.

2. How much?

The amount of the benefits depends on the decrease in sales. The maximum amount of support is up to 90 percent of the company's fixed operating costs, maximum EUR 1.5 million per month. These include, for example, rental costs, personnel expenses, interest and maintenance expenses, etc. The costs for lawyers or tax advisors, for the application of Bridge Aid III are also reimbursed on a pro rata basis (see "4.").

3. When?

Advance payments will be possible. The first regular payments will be made by the federal states in the first quarter of 2021.

4. How?

The application must be submitted by a verifying third party, e.g. a lawyer or tax advisor, on behalf of the applicant via a digital interface of the approval offices of the federal states. The application can be submitted until 31 August 2021.

5. Further Requirements

In principle, companies with sales of up to EUR 750 million in 2020 are eligible to apply for the funding period November 2020 to June 2021 if they have suffered a Corona-related drop in sales of at least 30 percent in any one month compared with the reference month in 2019. Newly established companies can also benefit from Bridge Aid III if they were established before 1 May 2020.

A company is any legally independent entity with its own legal personality, regardless of its legal form, which is economically active on the market and had at least one employee as of 31 December 2020. Funding is also available for non-profit companies, organizations and associations.

Relationship to Bridge Aid I and II and November/December Aid

The benefit period of the 3rd phase of the Bridge Aid program from November 2020 to June 2021 follows the 2nd phase of the Bridge Aid. Utilization of the 1st and/or 2nd phase of Bridge Aid does not preclude utilization of the 3rd phase of Bridge Aid.
