Climate Change – The Science, The Economics, The Law

Friday 5 July 2019, 12:00 - 18:00 - Eversheds Sutherland, London

As part of the Mayor Of London’s London Climate Action Week, Eversheds Sutherland was pleased to host this mini-conference which offers an opportunity to hear from some of the most eminent experts in their respective fields, taking a global view of what can be done to make the changes all human society needs in acting against climate change.

Multiple studies published in peer-reviewed scientific journals show that 97 percent* or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree: Climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities: our consumption and reliance on CO2 emitting fossil fuels is the single largest contributor (IPCC – United Nations). Most of us agree that Climate Change requires urgent action.

(*NASA – John Cook, Fellow at the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland in Australia. et al Study - “Quantifying the consensus on anthropogenic global warming in the scientific literature - 2013.”)

We heard from environmental, economic and legal experts including Stephen Hill, Energy and Infrastructure Partner at Eversheds Sutherland.

Renewable Energy Corporate Finance Quarterly Briefing - Focus on Blockchain

Friday 27 July 2018, 08:30 - 11:00 - Eversheds Sutherland, London

We were pleased to host the second of the quarterly breakfast briefings series, organised in collaboration with Clean Energy Pipeline, at our London office.

Blockchain is a decentralised ledger technology. When linked with an energy system that allows distributed electricity generation at thousands of sites including solar, wind and hydro in addition to the use of smart meters allowing consumers to see the real time cost of the electricity they use, it has the potential to fundamentally change electricity generation, distribution and sale.

Blockchain can be used throughout the power lifecycle, firstly as a tool to raise capital by issuing tokens, then as a system to simplify transactions between generators and consumers and finally as a link with the internet of things to allow real time choices to be made on electricity production and consumption to match supply and demand thereby ensuring the most efficient use of power.

Our panellists elaborated on the opportunities Blockchain offers in the clean energy sphere.
