  • Europe

Law firm Eversheds, along with its Bulgarian relationship firm Djingov, Gouginski, Kyutchukov & Velichkov, has advised the Born Free Foundation on the transfer of two ex-circus lions from Bulgaria to South Africa.

The Born Free Foundation is an international wildlife charity dedicated to the conservation of species in the wild.

The two lions were successfully transported more than 10,500 miles via London Heathrow from central Bulgaria to the Shamwari Game Reserve on Friday 25th September.

The Eversheds team was led by Stephen Mackin, head of shipping, assisted by Principal Associate Stephen O'Reilly, Senior Associate Richard Woodhead and Associate Nathan Lucas.

Stephen Mackin and Krassimir Stephanov from Djingov, Gouginski, Kyutchukov & Velichkov commented:

“It was a pleasure to have assisted the Born Free Foundation with the safe transportation of the two lions. We wish the Foundation every success with their ongoing conservation efforts.”

    The Born Free Foundation commented:

“This was a great conservation success. These lions are flagship animals for conservation efforts and we are grateful to Eversheds for their expertise and assistance in transporting them to their new African home.”
