Expansion to Asia: Eversheds Sutherland advises Messe München on the acquisition of the construction trade fair Fenestration China

  • Germany

The global legal practice Eversheds Sutherland once again advised Messe München on an international transaction: the acquisition of a majority share in Fenestration China, Asia's leading trade fair for facade elements, windows and doors. With this acquisition, Messe München has made its largest investment in the company's history so far.

The organizer of trade fairs intends to expand Fenestration China by adding segments of BAU in Munich, the world's largest trade fair for architecture, materials and systems. The first Fenestration BAU China will take place at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center (SNIEC) in Shanghai from 07 to 10 November 2017.

At the end of 2015, Messe München acquired the construction machinery fair CTT in Moscow, Russia's biggest trade fair, which also constituted its largest investment back then. A team of Eversheds Sutherland also advised Messe München on this transaction.

Messe München is one of the world's leading organizers of trade fairs. It organizes about 40 trade fairs for capital goods, consumer goods and new technologies and recently generated a sales volume of over 400 million euros. As a global trade fair organizer, Messe München, the main shareholders of which are the Free State of Bavaria and the City of Munich, currently organizes 14 internationally leading trade fairs, which includes Bauma, the world's largest trade fair.

Messe München was advised on this cross-border transaction by Eversheds Sutherland as Lead Counsel, headed by Dr. Matthias Heisse (Corporate/M&A). Further team members were Dr. Christian Mense (Partner) and Wolfgang Troidl (Senior Associate, both Corporate/M&A, all based in Munich).
