On 13 September, Datacloud Ireland 2018 was held in the Convention Centre, Dublin. The theme for the event was 'Challenges and Opportunities for enterprises and investors in Ireland's Global Data Hub'. There was a series of panel discussions, followed by networking at the event.

Marie gave an informative and very clear presentation, demystifying the tricky area of the application of GDPR on Brexit. Data flows from the EU to the UK after Brexit on 29 March 2019 will be caught by the GDPR and until agreement is reached on how that will be regulated, uncertainty remains for European businesses on how to plan for this.

Ivan Habovcik, ITD Sales Director Ireland of Schneider Electric presenting some remarkable statistics about the state and future of the Data Centre Market in Ireland.  We all know that the demand for digital services continues to grow, but Ivan’s well researched presentation really brings the message home.  The challenge to procure power and build data centres to meet growing demand is a key hurdle for the industry to overcome.

Interesting panel discussion at Datacloud 2018 on the technical solutions required to build more connectivity and accommodate greater and greater rack densities in today’s data centres. As compute power increases, so does the electrical requirement to power and cool them. Gerard Thibault at Kao Data, Alberto Zucchinali at The Siemon Company and Jan Anderrsson at Wärtsilä may have the answers!
