SAIIPL Submission on the Copyright and Performers Protection Bills To The NCOP

  • South Africa

    25-01-2023

We are proud to announce that the Head of Intellectual Property, Sara-Jane Pluke, in her capacity as a fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law (SAIIPL) participated in the call for comments on the Copyright Amendment Bill No. B13D of 2017 and the Performers’ Protection Amendment Bill No. B24D of 2016 to the National Council of Provinces (NPOC).

The submission comments extensively on the flaws and provisions in the Copyright Amendment Bill and the Performers’ Protection Amendment Bill that require reconsideration. Additionally, the submissions identify subjects that have not been covered by the Copyright Amendment Bill and sets out recommendations for each subject.

This submission is of critical importance as it has the potential to be highly regarded by both policymakers and stakeholders in the field of copyright law and may be used to guide their decisions. Eversheds Sutherland is proud to have been a very small part of the Task Team of highly experienced attorneys and advocates in the IP fraternity who have contributed tirelessly over the years, in formulating these submissions and enabling SAIIPL’s voice to be heard on this topic.
