Eversheds Sutherland has further strengthened its global privacy and cybersecurity offering with the strategic lateral hire of Partner Simon Morrissey.

Joining Eversheds Sutherland today (8th October), Simon is highly experienced in providing privacy advice across key business sectors including advertising and marketing, retail and leisure and media and entertainment. Simon’s clients range from high growth start-ups to listed and global companies. Simon joins from Lewis Silkin where he formerly led the Data & Privacy Legal Practice Group.

With a long-standing and substantial dedicated privacy and cybersecurity practice, Simon’s recruitment marks another example of Eversheds Sutherland’s continued strategic investment in this area.

Described by Chambers as ‘noted by clients for his work on matters with a heavy technological and digital focus’, Simon’s recent experience includes conducting a European-wide GDPR audit and data mapping exercise for a global advertising and marketing company; developing a new protocol for the Association of Online Publishers for adoption by its publisher members to address the GDPR; advising a number of UK high street retailers in the development of commercial and compliance strategies to address the impact of GDPR on marketing and advertising activity and providing GDPR and ePrivacy compliance advice to a US-based global supplier of in-home Internet of Things technology.

Paula Barrett, Global Co-Lead of Privacy & Cybersecurity Law commented:

“We are delighted to welcome Simon to the privacy and cybersecurity team. His experience and business-orientated approach across key business sectors, together with in-depth knowledge of the adoption of marketing and digital technologies is vital in ensuring that we continue to support our global client base at the leading edge of privacy and cybersecurity. Simon really gets to grips with the underlying technology and that can be vital in helping our clients embrace the challenges facing them in privacy and cybersecurity.

“As the ways in which personal data is exploited becomes increasingly complex, so too is the regulation which seeks to protect it. Globally, businesses large and small continue to develop their appreciation of the full impact of GDPR and other data privacy regulation on their daily operations and product or service development, whilst looking to explore opportunities for growth of their businesses which their data assets could unlock. And with further changes from proposed ePrivacy regulations and broader reporting on cybersecurity and strengthening of controls, our clients need increasing support. Simon will help us to deliver this leading edge advice.”

    Simon Morrissey commented:

“I am delighted to join Eversheds Sutherland, whose privacy and cybersecurity team share my excitement and passion for the future innovation, development and growth of privacy and cybersecurity services. The firm’s global footprint also provides my clients with seamless access to international privacy and cybersecurity expertise and a truly global full-service capability.”
