Eversheds was awarded the James Bullock Award for Outstanding Achievement in a Legal Firm at the annual Taxation Awards held at the Hilton Park Lane hotel in London on 19 May.

The Taxation Awards recognise excellence in the UK tax sector and are acknowledged as the leading awards for this sector. The Eversheds tax team have been a finalist for the heavily contested award for best tax team in a legal firm for the preceding three years.

This year’s submission in particular recognised the ground-breaking work Eversheds has undertaken on the design, introduction and development of an entirely new tax-transparent fund, the Authorised Contractual Scheme (or ACS). The ACS is seen by the Government and the UK funds industry as an essential new vehicle for the pooling of investment funds, vital to support and protect the valuable UK investment funds industry from the impact of competition from other fund management jurisdictions such as Luxembourg and Ireland.

Tax Legal Director Camilla Spielman led Eversheds involvement in the development of the ACS, with London Head of Tax Cathryn Vanderspar, tax partners Giles Salmond and Ben Jones and tax consultant John Buckeridge, working closely with our highly regarded Financial Services team.

David Jervis, Head of Tax, said: “This is a fantastic achievement recognising the strength and expertise of the Tax practice at Eversheds and the cutting edge Tax work that the firm is undertaking.”

Pamela Thompson, London Senior Partner and Head of the Asset Management team, said: "The Eversheds Financial Services team were and continue to be heavily involved in the development of the ACS with HMT and HMRC and have been involved in the majority of ACSs established to date with more in the pipeline for major industry players. We are delighted with this validation of the firm’s work in relation to ACSs.”
