Eversheds comment: Company insolvency test is yet to come

  • United Kingdom

On news from the Insolvency Service that company liquidations in England and Wales decreased in April-June 2014, Simon Waller, head of the Finance and Restructuring Group at law firm Eversheds, comments:

“It is not surprising to see these statistics. A continued low interest rate environment, combined with support from lenders, has meant that the incidence of corporate insolvencies have been falling for a while now.

“The test, however, is yet to come with rate rises, combined with companies typically overtrading as the economy enters sustained growth, meaning we are likely to see a reversal of this trend in the medium term.”
