Eversheds comment: DWP consults on changes to simplify auto-enrolment legislation in UK

  • United Kingdom

Commenting on the proposed changes to auto-enrolment legislation in the UK, Francois Barker, pensions partner at global law firm Eversheds, says:

“It is good to see the DWP taking steps to address various teething problems that have been identified with the auto-enrolment legislation. Although the proposals will not address all of the issues, the change to the definition of pay reference period is helpful and the exemption for workers with fixed or enhanced protection cannot come soon enough. The proposal to introduce an easement for employers who choose to auto-enrol all of their staff would also be a very positive change.”
