Practice notes

Nabil is a Senior Associate in the Intellectual Property Team at Eversheds Sutherland who assists clients on a wide range of legal and commercial matters across IP, contract and regulatory law as well as supporting M&A activities.

Nabil has a Ph.D. in chemistry from Cambridge University and undertook post-doctoral research at the University of Groningen. Prior to qualifying as a solicitor, Nabil worked in fine chemicals manufacturing and pharmaceutical R&D in the commercial sector and chaired the Physical Organic Chemistry Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Nabil has recently advised:

  • a major pharmaceutical company on its multimillion pound collaboration with an AI partner towards deploying artificial intelligence technologies in pharmaceutical R&D;
  • a Berkshire Hathaway company on its European strategy for enforcing an industrial technology patent, issuing proceedings against a UK-domiciled competitor;
  • the formulator of a medicinal product on supply agreements and the appointment of an overseas agent for regulatory submissions;
  • a big-name furniture retailer on IP protection and anti-counterfeiting;
  • a multinational electrical and industrial corporation on its template contracts for commissioning and providing technology;
  • a London Hospital on regulatory and contractual matters around the compassionate use of an experimental antibody therapy;
  • an NHS Clinical Commissioning Group on contracts and data protection issues for the flagship NHS Test Beds project on early intervention in long term conditions in partnership with a major pharmaceutical company and Google’s life sciences arm;
  • a UK provider of systems architecture on its contracts and commercialisation strategy in the automotive sector;
  • a world-leading aerospace company on protecting its IP position across multiple contracts; and
  • a world-leading chemical company on a multijurisdictional dispute relating to infringement of a patented herbicide formulation.

Nabil enjoys working at the interface between science and law. As well as writing legal updates and articles, he is corresponding author on a number of scientific papers in leading international journals. In addition to his private practice roles, Nabil has worked in-house for a Walmart Global Sourcing subsidiary and on secondment at Mamas and Papas (Holdings) Limited.
