Practice notes

Rupert is a Partner within the IP Group at Eversheds Sutherland.

Based in the UK, Rupert advises in relation to the full range of intellectual property matters, including in relation to:

  • patents;
  • trade marks;
  • copyright;
  • design right;
  • passing off;
  • internet and domain names.

With over two decades of experience, Rupert has successfully led high profile litigations for a variety of household name companies, achieving a 100% success rate in the High Court and the Court of Appeal. Rupert also assists clients with all aspects of their non-contentious IP work including licensing, branding and R&D agreements.

Additionally, Rupert has had the benefit of in-house experience at retail giants Marks & Spencer Plc and Arcadia Limited.

Having spent time not solely in private practice, but also in-house, Rupert has a deep understanding of the need to offer simple, straightforward guidance combined with practical commercial solutions. He sets out options, outlines strategy and gives advice in plain English.

Rupert is ranked as a “Leading Individual” by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500, the industry guides to legal practitioners, in which he has been described by clients as:

  • “Hugely experienced in IP matters”;
  • “Famous for his litigation and internet work”;
  • “Always impresses with his attention to detail, speed of response and friendly, down to earth attitude”;
  • “Commercial and excels at demystifying complex matters”;

  • "His commercial acumen, nimble mind and dedication to whatever the task in front of him is always of enormous assistance."
  • In short - Rupert becomes a member of the client’s team.

In recognition of the above, in September 2019, Rupert was named a “Global IP Star” by Managing Intellectual Property.

Rupert appears in the Seventh Edition of The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom for his work in Intellectual Property Law.
