Practice notes

Stuart is a Partner in our pensions team. He works in all areas of pensions law and acts for a wide range of clients, from multinational employers and trustees of large occupational schemes to insurance companies and providers of SIPPs/SSASs.

Stuart has particular experience in issues facing both employers and trustees in respect of scheme change and regularly advises on the strategies and options available in funding scheme deficits. He also provides pensions support on corporate transactions, including advice on issues such as TUPE, Beckmann, Section 75 debts and the role of the Pensions Regulator. He regularly advises both corporate and trustee clients on issues associated with clearance applications in a variety of contexts.

Stuart is currently involved in advising a number of clients on risk management strategies ranging from addressing historic equalisation and scheme rule issues to reviews of investment options and buy-outs/ins in the insurance market.

His recent experience includes: advising the Trustees of the Morgan Crucible Pension Schemes on a combined buy-out of pension liabilities worth £163m; advising the Trustees of the Archant Pension Scheme on a £50m refinancing project; and developing strategies to manage Section 75 debt liabilities for the Alcoa Britain Pension Scheme.

Stuart speaks regularly at pensions seminars and regularly writes articles for publications, including Payroll Professional and In House Lawyer. He is a member of the Association of Pension Lawyers.

Chambers describes Stuart as "a rising star at the practice who is admired by clients for his invaluable input and advice.
