Practice notes

Daniel works as an Of Counsel in our Hamburg office.

He mainly advises clients in the areas of corporate law (including M&A, VC), compliance and restructuring. His work focusses on advice in national and cross-border M&A transactions, joint ventures, restructurings and venture capital investments.

Daniel's expertise furthermore includes corporate advice to family companies, the structuring of family assets as well as company succession and foundation law; he is also a member of several foundation boards and boards of trustees. Additionally, Daniel is a professor for commercial law and director of the Institute for Applied Commercial Law at the NORDAKADEMIE Hochschule der Wirtschaft (University of Applied Science funded by industry).

Daniel has published several legal monographs and many expert articles in renowned magazines.

Daniel is a member of the Wissenschaftliche Vereinigung für Unternehmens- und Gesellschaftsrecht (academic association for company and corporate law), of the Deutscher Arbeitsgerichtsverband (German labour courts association), of the Vereinigung der Hochschullehrer für Wirtschaftsrecht (association of German university lecturers for commercial law) and of the Deutscher Juristentag (German legal council).

He studied law and politics in Germany, Switzerland, the USA and Japan. Following his second state examination, he wrote his doctoral thesis on a corporate law topic from the area of corporate governance in the department of Barbara Dauner-Lieb at the University of Cologne. Already while writing his thesis, he worked as a lawyer for a successful regional law firm and represented several companies throughout Germany in labour court proceedings and in the area of international trade law. After completing his thesis, he joined White & Case, where he worked for several years in the area of corporate and capital market law in Hamburg, London and Munich. At the same time, he successfully completed the specialist training course for lawyers in tax law. He subsequently worked for several years as a lawyer in the Hamburg office of CMS Hasche Sigle in the area of corporate law and private clients.
