Janis Heiliger is a Counsel at Eversheds Sutherland in Dusseldorf.

He advises on all areas of construction and real estate law. Janis has extensive experience in construction processes and uses his knowledge for the drafting of contracts and rendering of project-related legal advice. His clients include principals, including investors, municipalities and project developers as well as planners and construction companies.

Another focus of his activities is brokerage law.

Since January 2017, Janis has been a certified lawyer for construction and architects law.

He permanently collaborates in IBR Online (a database for construction, architects and real estate law) and regularly publishes articles in the VBI Magazine (a professional association of consulting engineers in Germany).

Janis is a member of the working group on construction and real estate law of the German Bar Association as well as of the German Society for Construction Law.

He studied law at Justus-Liebig University in Gießen and obtained his PhD in 2007.

Before joining Eversheds Sutherland, Janis worked as Senior Associate in the Construction and Real Estate practice group of a renowned law firm in Dusseldorf.

Janis is recommended by German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche and Best Lawyers as one of the top lawyers for construction law in Germany.

His recent experience includes:

  • out-of-court project-related legal advice to an European fashion group on the extension of a logistics centre near Munich (project volume approx. EUR 40 million)
  • court representation of insurers regarding liability damages in connection with architects and engineers
  • permanent out-of-court and court representation of a broker company in Central Hesse
  • project-related legal advice to a principal in connection with the development of the job centre in Gießen (project volume approx. EUR 12 million)
  • court representation of a planner in connection with a damage event regarding a furnace in Uzbekistan (value in dispute: EUR 3.8 million)
  • preparation of all planner contracts for the principal of a commercial property at Airport City, Dusseldorf
  • court representation of an architectural practice regarding planning defects at the Thyssen-Krupp headquarters, Essen
