Practice notes

Richard is a Partner and Solicitor Advocate in our Commercial Dispute Management group.

He specialises in advising domestic and international clients on heavy-weight civil and public law matters in dispute situations and conducts High Court proceedings, arbitrations and other forms of dispute resolution, particularly in the: Aerospace, Defence and Security; Energy; Industrial Engineering; Retail and TMT sectors.

Richard has over 15 years’ experience as a commercial dispute resolution lawyer. He was recognised by the FT.Com in its 2012 innovation report on the legal sector.

Richard's recent Dispute Resolution experience includes: advising a state oil company in one of the largest challenges to an arbitral award under s67 and s68 of the Arbitration Act; defending four of the world’s leading electronics manufacturers in standalone proceedings for alleged breaches of anti-trust law; advising the owner of a high profile multi-million pound asset against a group action seeking to impose a trust over the asset; advising as counsel a North African state telecoms company in an ICC arbitration; and advising a leading medical equipment supplier in relation to simultaneous proceedings in India and England in relation to the termination of a multi country distribution agreement.

Richard is recognised by Chambers and Partners in the fields of Dispute Resolution. He is described as " tenacious, and he gives opponents the tactical runaround. He’s a past master at interlocutory skirmishing and he leaves no stone unturned for the client "; " the kind of person you would want on your side in a tight corner "; “measured and pragmatic” and “he is an effective project manager”.
