Practice notes
Jonathan is the head of our UK debt capital markets and structured finance practice. Working together with our specialist tax, derivatives, regulatory and US securities teams, his team advises on a wide range of domestic and cross-border transactions, including public bond offerings, private placements (including USPPs), securitisation, securitised warehouse lending, structured note programmes, green bonds, liability management exercises, bond restructurings, convertible bonds and hybrid capital structures.
Jonathan’s sector experience spans financial institutions, retail, real estate, renewable energy, fintech and automotive. In particular, Jonathan, who holds a BSc in Environmental Biology from the University of St. Andrews, is also involved in our ESG (environmental, social and governance) group, with a focus on developing the firm’s work on green bonds and other ESG-compliant debt securities. He also has extensive emerging markets experience, having acted on many debt capital markets transactions across Africa, Russia and the CIS, and Latin America.
Recent transactions Jonathan has led on range from advising an alternative lender on its debut commercial mortgage-backed securitisation to advising a FTSE 100 corporate on a London-listed benchmark sterling bond offering and advising a renewable energy company on the establishment of an innovative programme for the private placement of secured green bonds for financing solar projects in Latin America (for which Eversheds Sutherland was shortlisted for an award at the British Legal Awards 2018).
Prior to joining Eversheds Sutherland, Jonathan worked at a leading international law firm in London and Moscow, where he had been listed as a recommended lawyer and rising star in the Legal 500 and Chambers Global.
