Practice notes
Joanne is a senior associate in our litigation and dispute management group, specialising in construction.
Joanne is based in our Cambridge office but has also completed a secondment to our office in Doha, Qatar, advising on local and English law matters. She has experience advising on a range of dispute resolution mechanisms, as well as dispute avoidance and pre-action advice. Joanne's transactional experience includes advising on development agreements, framework arrangements, building contracts, consultant appointments, bonds, guarantees, novation agreements and warranties.
Joanne's recent experience includes:
- advising the Government of Rwanda in relation to the provision of the new Bugesera International Airport;
- advising the employer on a £4m adjudication claim for defects at the East Village in London;
- negotiating a settlement agreement for a large infrastructure project which may cause damage to the neighbouring buildings;
- drafting and negotiating the development agreement for a QAR 280 million (c. £50 million) project to construct a new school in Qatar, in addition to the building contract, consultant appointments and lease to take effect after construction;
- advising an academy trust on its rights under development agreements for the construction of two new schools, where various defects (of a value around £5 million) became apparent both at and after practical completion;
- advising Highways England on amendments to the M25 DBFO contract;
- advising on the transfer of the Highways Agency to Highways England;
- advising on a arrange of delay and disruption disputes arising out of a refurbishment project for a university employer; and
- advising on a £450,000 claim in relation to defective paving on behalf of a local authority employer.
Joanne read law at Gonville and Caius College, University of Cambridge, before completing a Masters in European Trade and Commercial Law at Durham University.
