Matthew is a Principal Associate in our National Planning Team, based in London. He advises on all aspects of planning, listed building and compulsory purchase law and specialises in judicial review and statutory challenges.
Matthew has extensive experience in both contentious and non-contentious matters, including section 106 agreements, highways agreements and stopping up, environmental impact assessment, and heritage impacts in addition to providing more strategic advice for planning applications and development projects.
Matthew's recent experience includes advising on Estate Regeneration in south London for over 1,100 residential units; on a town centre redevelopment, which will provide up to 1,867 new residential units and over 3,500 square metres of retail and commercial floorspace; and on a comprehensive mixed-use redevelopment comprising 1,524 residential units on the Isle of Dogs, London, including a three week public inquiry.
In addition to the above, Matthew's recent court experience includes acting for the Interested Party in defence to the release of green belt land in both the Guildford Local Plan and Wycombe Local Plan; advising the claimants in challenges to the designation of local green spaces in Local Plans and Neighbourhood Plans; and advising the claimant in a challenge to the interpretation of affordable housing provision in relation to retirement living.
