José specialises in investment funds formation work, advising domestic and foreign clients on matters relating to the structuring, setting-up and organisation of alternative investment funds (AIF) (whether regulated or non-regulated).

This includes contracts, company law, regulatory matters and operating arrangements, with a specific focus on private equity funds, real estate funds infrastructure funds and any other type of alternative assets funds, as well as related acquisition structures.

He is also deeply involved in the corporate and transactional aspects relating to such alternative funds and the structures set up for acquisition purposes.

He also advises on compliance and regulatory issues relating to investment funds and portfolio managers.


Recent Work advising one of Europe's leading insurance companies on the regulatory approval process and setting-up of its alternative investment fund manager (AIFM), as well as on the establishment of its real estate and infrastructure funds in Luxembourg.

  • Advising a leading French bank on the structuring and establishment of its SICAR and SIF platforms.
  • Advising one of Europe’s leading players in private banking and asset management on the organisation and regulatory approval process of its AIFM in Luxembourg.
  • Advising leading Spanish asset managers on various regulatory matters and on the setting-up of their private equity funds; advising US asset managers on the corporate aspects regarding intragroup refinancing transactions.
  • Advising on the setting up of reserved alternative investment funds for Mexican and US asset managers.
  • Advising on the setting up of hedge funds for European and Latin American asset managers.
  • Advising UK asset managers on the structuring and setting up of debt funds and advising on the setting up of non-regulated Luxembourg partnerships investing in private equity and real estate assets.
