Practice notes

Anika Patz is a Senior Associate in the Berlin office of Eversheds Sutherland and a member of the Banking & Finance practice group.

She advises banks, financial institutions, investment fund managers and depositaries, institutional investors, FinTechs and investment firms as well as stock exchanges and MTFs, in particular on regulatory, compliance and anti-money laundering related topics.

Anika has a strong focus on DLT and crypto-assets related businesses and regulatory implications, with deeper knowledge in developments around crypto custody, STOs, DeFi protocols, decentralized exchanges, stablecoins and crypto exchanges.

Anika will soon be a member of Bitkom e.V. and is a member of Deutsche Juristinnen Bund e.V.

She has been recognised by Legal 500 Germany as a rising star in FinTech.

Anika studied law at Humboldt University in Berlin and completed her doctoral thesis regarding state supervision of financial instruments in 2015.

Previously, she worked as in-house legal counsel for Boerse Stuttgart Digital Exchange, a German based MTF for digital assets. She also worked in-house for Solarisbank, specifically for their crypto custodian Solaris Digital Assets. Before that she worked as a lawyer for lindenpartners a Berlin based law firm with a focus on banking and financial services law as well as on the regulatory framework for investment funds, fund managers and distributors.

Anika's recent experience includes advising:

  • a global crypto custodian on entering the EU market
  • a German crypto custodian on outsourcing partnerships and crypto custody services for banks entering the crypto-assets market
  • a German based crypto-MTF on various matters
  • a major global crypto exchange regarding legal implications for using and providing services in connection with decentralised finance (DeFi), including the assessment of constantly evolving DeFi use cases, such as lending, staking, liquidity mining etc.
  • a Germany based depositary on the regulatory requirements when safekeeping crypto-assets for AIFs
