Practice notes
James is a partner in our Real Estate group. He specialises in all types of real estate investment and development work. He has wide ranging experience of acting on high value transactions often involving overseas corporate structures and joint ventures and leading cross-disciplinary teams on such transactions.
His recent investment experience includes: acting on the disposal of an office building sitting above a major London Underground station for £75 milion; acting on the disposal of a major south-east office building for £60 million; acting for a European Fund on the acquisition of several property portfolios for considerations of up to £55 million and a shopping centre in East London for £95 million; and acting on the sale of a mixed office and retail building in Holborn for £175 million.
Recent development experience includes: acting for the landlord in relation to the letting and refurbishment of part of an office building for use as a data centre; acting for a fund on the proposed redevelopment of a town centre site to provide a mixed retail/leisure/residential scheme; working as part of the team acting for an overseas investor on the acquisition of two London hotel sites for £300 million; and acting for an inward investor on the acquisition for in excess of £20 million of an office building in London's West End with a view to its redevelopment and negotiating simultaneously with an adjoining owner the terms of a deed granting appropriate rights to facilitate future redevelopment.
James also has extensive experience in property finance transactions and has acted for a variety of lenders (clearing banks, overseas banks and alternative lenders) and borrowers on investment financings and complicated development facilities including working as a member of the team on the re-financing of the Shard and The Place.
