Jemma Thomas is a Principal Associate in our Human Resources Practice group. She specialises in contentious and non-contentious employment law and has advised large scale employers on a wide variety of issues. Jemma is also part of the Firm’s National Education team which acts for the majority of universities and colleges in Wales and SW England, together with a number of institutions in London and SE England.

Jemma has advised on TUPE transactions involving the outsourcing of various government services in addition to large scale corporate sales and acquisitions. This has involved her carrying out extensive due diligence reviews and providing advice on the employment issues arising out of the transaction, including drafting the relevant agreements and advising on resulting redundancies.

Jemma has advised on a host of general employment issues including changing terms and conditions of employment, advising on employment disputes, atypical working, Trade Union issues, contracts of employment, employment policies, terminations, redundancies. In particular, Jemma is very experienced in advising on disciplinary, disciplinary appeal and grievance issues and regularly provides ad hoc advice to clients. This includes providing detailed advice on discrimination issues.

Jemma has extensive experience in drafting Tribunal responses and preparing a case for hearing. In addition she has experience in advocating at employment tribunal claims. Most recently, she has acted for clients in relation to a variety of complex and high profile discrimination claims.
