Practice notes

Neilia is a Partner in our Bandar Seri Begawan office and has extensive experience in corporate and commercial matters from both private practice and from her public service in the Attorney General’s Chambers (Civil Division) (”AGC’’) in Brunei Darussalam.

During her 8-year tenure with AGC, she provided legal advice to Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies and statutory boards and was involved in negotiating and drafting MOUs, contracts and statutory interpretation and debt recovery for and on behalf of these ministries. Her portfolio also included managing and conducting arbitration and other dispute resolution cases involving the Brunei Government, negotiating Double Taxation Agreements on behalf of the Brunei Government and was part of the prosecution team handling children and young person matters and income tax matters.

Neilia is is the main partner for all corporate and commercial matters in the Brunei office. Her portfolio of corporate clients includes Government ministries, GLCs as well as local, regional and international companies on all corporate and commercial matters ranging from mergers and acquisitions, reorganisation of group of companies, takeovers, due diligence, joint ventures, incorporation of companies, etc.

Neilia obtained her LLB (Honours) from the University of Manchester, UK and has a Certificate in Legal Practice from  Malaysia.

She was called to the Brunei Bar in 2003.
